Patient Chauffeur
Do I look like a hospital?
It’s something you may hear parents implore of their children when their patience (patients) is less than full, and when you see mums and dads in the supermarket wrestling their kids away from the chocolates or waiting for them to tie their own shoe because they’re sure they can do it themselves regardless of how late mum or dad is for their appointment, it makes you wonder how they stat so restrained.
However, children are nothing to the stress and patience tests a chauffeur is confronted with every hour of every shift. While being a coach chauffeur may seem like a glamorous job, rich, famous and influential people are often no more polite than a five year old who really wants a chocolate.
Then the chauffeur has to deal with the passengers who think that just because they are riding in a coach, this gives them the right to act like a spoilt celebrity and order around the ‘help’.
A chauffeur also has to deal with passengers who are indecisive about their destination and require all of the chauffeur’s driving skills to navigate the coach across town when the destination keeps changing but the timeline doesn’t. Or there are passengers who give the chauffeur driving instruction and criticise their choice of route without realising the chauffeur knows the roads they drive and that the route suggested is always congested at that time of the day.
Then there are passengers who keep the chauffeur waiting and are late to every pick up point and don’t realise how much effort the chauffeur put into arriving on time to ensure they could negotiate the traffic and pull up in exactly the right spot. Coaches are also a magnet for party goers who have had a big night out and are spilling their drinks in the coach, making continual noise and a horrible mess of the coach.
Of course chauffeurs have to have patience for children too as many coach passengers hire a coach so they can focus their attention on controlling their child and not worry about driving, so there are chauffeurs who feel very little like a hospital too.
However, a professional chauffeur knows that they have to have patience for all of their passengers and provide the best service whether they deserve it or not.
